Water Damage
Water damage is one of the most common problems associated with construction defects. Improperly designed and/or installed building components such as sliding doors, windows and doors, roofing, drywall or stucco, allows water to leak into a building such as a home or school. Along with damaging walls, flooring, cabinets and other parts of the building, water intrusion also permits growth of molds and fungi, causing unhealthful living conditions and interior air quality. Frequently, water damage is hidden and can only be discovered through testing.
Another problem that can result in water damage is improper drainage. Standing water can destroy plants and grass, rot wood structures such as fencing and fence posts, and serve as a breeding ground for insects such as mosquitoes. At its worst, improper drainage can create unstable ground on slopes which can result in slippage (also called subsidence) that causes extensive damage to hillside homes.
